A Little Bit of Whimsy7:53 AM
I got a little artsy in my office at work. I hadn't made anything "wooden" in over a month, and I was itching to use my saw and sander again. So then I was browsing online one day and I saw this picture:
AND I COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.
I was so curious what that would actually look like in real life, or if it was somehow just internet magic and in real life it would look wacky. So I decided to find out for myself, and make an Annie-version. I woke up early on Saturday and excitedly starting prying apart a pallet (which is SO much harder than it sounds.) I managed to get the planks off, and I sanded and stained them.
I was so pleased once they were nailed together. I don't know what it is about pallet planks, but I really think they're so beautiful. And it annoys me that they're so trendy right now, because I feel like they're actually my style - I'm not just jumping on a bandwagon. I've always loved wooden things. Every time I see a pretty wooden bowl, I have to pet it. And there's something so casual and comfortable about "pallet art," and that's for sure my style.
I cut out a bunch of white paper butterflies and stuck them on the planks (though not nearly as many as in the original!)
In the end, it made for a fun office facelift. It's a little bit whimsical, but I like whimsical. There's not enough whimsical in my life. So I'll keep it for now. And maybe somewhere down the line I'll use the wooden boards as a backdrop for something else. But for now, the butterflies are here to keep me company.
