Hopes and Fears

7:34 AM

This past August, my soon-to-be roommate, Brittany, mentioned that she'd "always wanted a piece of art to hang up at Christmas that said 'The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight,'" but she'd never been able to find anything like that. My ears perked up. It's like she was shining an Annie-shaped bat signal into the night sky. Brittany wasn't telling me so that I would make her one, she was just making conversation...but I could hardly wait to surprise her with it. I kept it simple, just letters and some trees on scrap pieces of wood, but I love how it came out:

For the letters, I used re-usable stencil stickers. They're great because they stick well without being sticky, if that makes sense. The only bummer was that, because the stickers were too big to just set them side by side and paint them all at once, I had to do every other letter and then let them dry (which is a vague summary of what's happening in the picture here on the right):

Minor detour as I checked to see if these stencils look cool when you paint them on as tattoos...
(Answer: No.)
All in all, this was a very fun project, and one that I was very happy to give!
My roommates come up with good ideas.
(Also, prints are now for sale here!)

    1. Thanks! I love that my friend picked out such a pretty line from a Christmas hymn, but it stands so well on its own.
