Adventures in Watercolor

8:03 AM

This is perhaps not the most exciting post...but it's exciting to me! I've decided I need to learn how to paint with watercolors. Or figure out if I already know how. I've avoided watercolors for the majority of my art upbringing (I try to avoid anything that requires the use of a paintbrush because I love pens and pencils so much!) but now I think it's time. It's time to grow up and paint with watercolors already. So I'm trying it out. I'm still not sure if I prefer it with or without the pen lines over the finished product...when in doubt, I always use pen!

  1. My take is that you challenge yourself for one week or two that whenever you do something with watercolor, you don't allow yourself to add to it with pen or pencil. I think it might help you expand your style a bit further.

  2. Something else to consider about watercolor: the painting style can be either very loose or very tightly rendered. Personally, I think that watercolors with pen look best when the drawing is tight, but the paint is a bit looser and may go over the lines a bit. Does that make sense? It adds really interesting depth and movement. It's something I've been experimenting with myself a bit... You'll see it when you visit ;)

I can't wait to have you come and make art here!!!
